Cleaning carpet stains can be
a snap or a chore. It alldepends on how quickly you act.
That’s why one of the best
ways to keep your carpet as clean and stain free as possible is to
remove spills as soon as they occur.
Left to soak into a carpet’s fibers, a seemingly harmless
spill will turn into the nastiest stain. If you find yourself facing a
potential stain, do the following carpet stain removal steps.
1. Try to remove any accompanying solid material with a utensil of some
sort. You don’t want to rush and start removing things with a
cloth right away since you might inadvertently grind solid material
into the fiber.
2. After you’ve removed as much solid material as possible,
use a clean cloth to absorb remaining liquids. Be careful not to rub
the cloth in circles like mom instructed us to do as kids. Rubbing in a
circular motion is a grinding motion – and that only moves
stain-causing liquids further into the carpet.
3. Spray a Professional Carpet & Upholstery Spot Remover onto
the spot (or use a quarter teaspoon of dishwashing detergent and a cup
of cold water on the area) until its thoroughly wet. After a few
minutes, the colored particles of the spillage will loosen.
4. Again, avoiding the tendency to rub the area in a circle, wipe the
spill from edges toward the center. Repeat steps 3 – 4 until
the spillage is completely undetectable.
5. Cover the area with highly absorbent cloths and gently press down.
This will help remove remaining substances.
For stubborn stains or a cleaning carpet spot that just won’t
budge, cover the area with a damp cloth and give us a call.
